Type II diabetes is at an all-time high in the US and the reason are varied. Obesity and lack of physical exercise make up a couple of causes. There are 25.8 million people in the United States, or 8.3% of the population, who have diabetes Diabetes.org
Researchers from the University of Leicester Departments of Health Sciences and Cardiovascular Sciences have released a study that shows that women who sit for long periods of time are appreciably greater risk of acquiring type 2 diabetes. However, the same risk does not apply to men.
The researchers were not able to pinpoint exactly why this happens; although the thought is that women may snack more than men may while sitting or that men move around more than women do.
